Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are bringing you one exercise topic, talking about it for two minutes, and giving you three reasons why you should follow our advice.  This week we are talking to all of the single ladies who aren’t going to be single much longer.  Or the single fellas who are going to be single much longer.  We are talking to those of you who are preparing for your wedding.  How do you workout in preparation for the big day?

1. Don’t Overdo It

Tip number one – don’t overdo it.  One of the most common desires before your wedding is to want to change how your body looks and feels so you can look amazing and feel amazing in your big dresses and tuxes.  Here’s the problem – when you start to overdo your exercise, while you might start looking great, you might start to not feel so great.  It might be a challenge to enjoy your big day if all of your joints are achy and your muscles are constantly sore.

Action Step: Be mindful of how your body is feeling while you are exercising.  Listen to your body, and if it is telling you that you are doing too much, respect that and ease off.  The transformative changes we often seek from exercise occur while we are resting, so make sure you are getting in plenty of rest and recovery between your workouts.

2. Think Of The Long-Term Benefits

Tip number two – think about the long-term benefits of what you are trying to do when you exercise.  Yes, your goal is to look amazing on your big day – and you will!  But you have to make sure that when you are exercising, you are not only exercising for your wedding day, but you are also exercising in a way that you can continue to exercise well beyond.

Action Step:  Ask yourself the question, “Am I going to continue to exercise like this after my wedding?”.  If the answer is, “No,” reconsider how you are exercising.

3. Remember The Purpose Of Exercise

Tip number three – with all of the excitement planning your wedding, don’t forget the purpose of exercising.  Exercise is here to help us live a healthy and active lifestyle so that we can continue to live the kind of life we want to in the future.  Remember, your wedding is here so you can commit to one person and continue to live the life you want to with that person.  Make sure you are being respectful of your body so you can continue to live the active lifestyle that you would like with that individual.

Action Step:  Short-term and long-term health improvements are some of the most powerful benefits of regular exercise.  But, you are only able to glean these benefits if you are able to exercise in the first place.  Make sure that how you are exercising now will allow you to continue to exercise in the future.
