Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are talking about one exercise topic for two minutes and giving you three reasons why you should follow our advice. Now this week, we are talking to those of you who are in search for a new gym. What things do you need to be on the lookout for in order to find your perfect gym?
1) Keep In Mind What You Are Wanting
Tip number one – keep in mind your favorite parts of a gym. Maybe you are a group fitness person. Maybe you like personal training. Maybe you like the open gym weight floor. Whatever is your favorite thing, make sure you are investigating that portion of the gym to ensure that it will fit your needs.
Action Step: What activities do you enjoy doing most when you go to the gym? Make sure to inquire about those when you take a tour or check them out online!
2) Keep In Mind The Cleanliness
Tip number two – keep in mind the cleanliness of the gym. A lot of times gym-goers focus so much on cost that they completely neglect how clean the area is. While you can find $10 and $20 per month gyms to workout at, always keep in mind how the cleanliness of the facility is as this will play a part in what your experience will be like going forward.
Action Step: When you check out the location, keep a lookout for the following: towels laying around, sweat stains not cleaned up, a weird or foul aroma, trash cans kept neat, bathrooms and locker rooms well maintained, dumbbells and other equipment put away, machines wiped down.
3) Take A Tour During The Time You’d Go
Tip number three – make sure you check out the gym during the time you think you might regularly go there. You might be surprised at how busy or empty the place can be during certain times of the day, so just make sure you are comfortable with the amount of people that are likely going to be there while you are working out.
Action Step: When are you planning on going to workout? Before work? After work? During lunch? Take a tour of the facility during that time of day, as well as during the days of the week you plan on going. Weekdays can be very different than weekends, so make sure it is a good fit for you.
