Fellas – as you get older, your body will start to feel the effects of age. Especially once you hit your mid-30s, your body will naturally get weaker every year unless you start doing something about it. But don’t let that stop you from achieving your goals and feeling strong after 35. In fact, there’s no reason you can’t feel strong well into your 50s, 60s, and beyond.

But how do you do that in a way that doesn’t set you up for injury?

The first step in feeling strong after 35 is to make sure you are doing resistance training a minimum of three days a week. If you are doing three days a week, total body workouts – workout where you are doing exercises that target your legs, your core, and your upper body – are a great option for you. If you are doing resistance training four or more times a week, you can start to get into more specialized “splits”, having days that are focused on your lower body muscles and days that are focused on your upper body muscles.

Next, make sure you’re sleeping enough. For most guys, 8 hours of sleep is optimal. As you get into your mid 30s and beyond, your testosterone levels will naturally decline, the effects of which can leave you feeling weak, unmotivated, and like a shell of your formerly strong and athletic 20-something year old self. However, consistently getting enough sleep not only will help your body recover better from your workouts, it will also help your body produce sufficient testosterone.

Finally, start in with Muscle Activation Techniques® (MAT®). Not only will MAT® help you recover faster from your workouts, it will help rebalance your autonomic nervous system, reducing your overall stress and put your body into more of a parasympathetic – i.e. rest and digest – and anabolic – or muscle growth – state.

MAT® can help you reduce many of the aches, pains, and tweaks that guys typically experience as they get older, especially if they are trying to workout hard and get stronger. It will also help keep your muscles working well between your workouts, so when you go and exercise you won’t be overloading your system and risking injury. Feeling strong after 35 is possible. With a few simple lifestyle adjustments, you can get the most out of your body and start feeling like your strong and athletic self. Make sure you are doing resistance training, prioritize getting adequate sleep, and add in MAT® at least once per month to get back to feeling like superman again.
