Neck Stiffness – Exercise tips if you have a stiff neck

Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are talking about one exercise topic for two minutes and giving you three reasons why you should follow our advice.  Now this week, we are talking to those of you who having some neck stiffness. What things can you be doing with your exercise to 1) make sure your neck doesn’t get worse and 2) possibly even help it get better?

1) Be Mindful of Shoulder Exercises

Exercise Tip Number One If You Have Neck Stiffness – Be mindful of shoulder exercises.  There are many shoulder muscles that feed into the neck. Challenging these muscles with exercise has the potential to both help your neck and possibly make it worse if the exercises are done inappropriately.  So, be mindful when doing shoulder exercises if you have neck stiffness.

2) Stand Up & Move Throughout Your Day

Exercise Tip Number Two If You Have Neck Stiffness – Make it a habit to stand up and move throughout your day.  When your body gets stiff and achy, you might find that you have been in one position for a long period of time, such as sitting at a desk or hunched over a computer.  If you break the position you are in by standing up and moving intermittently throughout the day, you may find that much of your neck stiffness starts to go away.
