Trainer Tip Tuesday

What Happens When Your Elbows Drift Forward During Biceps Curls?

This month on Trainer Tip Tuesday we will be discussing considerations when you are performing biceps curls with dumbbells. Biceps curls are one of the most popular exercises both in the gym and at home, but there are some key details that are often overlooked.

One consideration that needs to be taken every time you do biceps curls is where your elbows are going to be positioned during the exercise. Will your elbows be behind your ribs as if you are doing curls lying back on an incline bench? Will your elbows be directly next to your ribs as if you are standing? Will your elbows be in front of your ribs like you are on a preacher bench?

Changing your elbow position in space is a result of movement at your shoulder, which is a joint your biceps cross. So when you move your elbow forward or back, you are influencing how effective your biceps can be at bending your elbow. As such, making sure you are being strategic with where you position your elbow in space is vital to ensuring you get a desirable outcome from your curls.

Check out all of the details in this week’s episode of Trainer Tip Tuesday, and be sure to tune back in next week as we discuss considerations when performing a different exercise.
