2-Minute Tuesdays

Holiday parties interfering with your workouts? We have some tips!

Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are talking about one exercise topic for two minutes and giving you three reasons why you should follow our advice.  Now this week, we are talking to those of you who are slammed with holiday parties. It is that time of year, and you are trying to figure out how to balance getting your workouts with the added social obligations.

1) Utilize Your Mornings, Lunches, and Immediately After Work

Tip Number One For Getting Your Workouts In With Holiday Parties – Workout when you have spare time, such as in the morning, on your lunch break, and immediately after work.  We often find that when people try to exercise when they have “free time” (i.e. the time that is now taken up by your holiday parties), the workouts just don’t happen. Make sure you use your mornings, you lunch hour, and right after work to get in your exercise.

2) Plan Your Workouts Ahead Of Time

Tip Number Two For Getting Your Workouts In With Holiday Parties – Plan your workouts ahead of time.  When you go to the gym, if you are on a time crunch, you have to know what you are going to be doing before you step foot in the gym. So, the night before or 15 minutes before you arrive, spend a little bit of time writing down what you plan on getting done, and then stick to that plan once you get there.

3) Prioritize Weight Training Over Cardio

Tip Number Three For Getting Your Workouts In With Holiday Parties – Prioritize weight training over cardio.  A lot of times, if you are in a time pinch, you may have the desire to just throw on your tennis shoes and get in some cardio exercise.  While cardio is great, resistance training is the thing that is going to help your body maintain its health and strength through the holidays, even if you are going to have to cut back on the amount of workouts that you do.
