Holiday Weekends – Things You Need To Do To Get Your Workouts In

Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are talking about one exercise topic for two minutes and giving you three reasons why you should follow our advice.  Now this week, we are talking to those of you who want to exercise over the long holiday weekend. You have some extra time off coming up. How can you utilize it in a way so you can get your workout in and still enjoy the holiday?

1) Plan Your Workouts

Exercise Tip Number One For Holiday Weekends – plan your workouts ahead of time.  Sometimes when you have a long holiday weekend, it gets treated like a workoutless vacation.  So, plan your workouts ahead of time to make sure they still get in.

Action Step:  Choose two days this upcoming holiday weekend when you are going to workout for at least 20 minutes.  What are you going to do? Go for a run? Hit the weights? Commit now to what you are going to do and when to help make sure it gets done!

2) Do Your Workouts In The Morning

Exercise Tip Number Two For Holiday Weekends – get your workouts in at the start of the day.  A lot of times you may feel like you want to sleep in or lounge around. That is all fine and well, but inevitably what happens is if you don’t do your workout at the start of the day, you don’t get it in throughout the rest of the day.  So, get your workout in by doing it right away in the morning after you wake up.

Action Step:  Doing a morning workout does not mean you have to wake up early, it just means you do it right away.  So even if you want to sleep in, commit to doing your workout within 90 minutes of getting out of bed.

3) Do Different Kinds Of Workouts

Exercise Tip Number Three For Holiday Weekends – be flexible and do fun and different activities that you can’t do when you are working.  Go for a longer bike ride with your kids, or find a park to play some games with your spouse, or pick up a new piece of sporting equipment to try a sport you’ve never tried.  A long holiday weekend is a great opportunity to explore different workout options.

Action Step:  Find at least one new outdoors place to go be active at over the long weekend.  Whether it is a state park to hike around, forest trails to bike through, or an open field to play tag, get outside and workout in a way that you don’t normally get to.
