2-Minute Tuesdays

Have tight hip flexors? Check this out.

Hey welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays. Now this week, we are talking to those of you who are experiencing exceptionally tight hip flexors. A lot of times, it is thought that tight hip flexors occur from sitting too much, but there may be other things contributing. Check out some things you can start doing now to possibly help with your tight hip flexors.

1) Do A Well-Rounded Resistance Training Program

Our first tip if you are experiencing tight hip flexors is to make sure you are doing a well-rounded resistance training program. In particular, this program should focus on strengthening the muscles that support your hips, knees, and core. Tightness is often a byproduct of weakness, meaning when weakness is present, tightness occurs. Resistance training will help to make sure your muscles stay strong, thereby limiting the potential for them to tighten up.

2) Stay Active Throughout Your Day

Our second tip if you are experiencing tight hip flexors is to make an effort to stay active throughout your day. A lot of times, your body can feel tight and achy after longer periods of being sedentary, whether it is sitting in the car, at your desk, or in front of the TV. Standing up and moving throughout your day can help with this!

Action Step:  Set your phone timer to go off every 30 minutes to remind you to stand up and walk around for five minutes. Not only is this important for your body to stay feeling loose, it is extremely important for your metabolic health, too!

3) Schedule With Your Local MAT® Specialist

Our third tip if you are experiencing tight hip flexors is to schedule with your local MAT® specialist. Chances are, if you have tight hip flexors, you have already tried to relax them through stretching, massage, and foam rolling. MAT® takes the opposite approach of all of these modalities and focuses on muscles that are too weak, causing other muscles to have to overwork. By getting your body assessed by your local MAT® specialist, you can learn exactly where your biggest muscle imbalances are and start to get those issues addressed.
