2-Minute Tuesdays

How to consistently workout with a busy summer schedule

Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are talking about one exercise topic for two minutes and giving you three reasons why you should follow our advice.  Now this week, we are talking to those of you who are preparing your summer schedule. School is about to get let out, the kids are coming home, and things are looking jam-packed. How can you still get your workouts in consistently with a busy summer schedule?

1) Prioritize Your Exercise

Tip number one – remember that the things you fit in are the things you prioritize.  Prioritize your fitness and get it scheduled before your other commitments take over.  That way you know you will show up for your workouts.

Action Step:  Before filling your day with everybody else’s agenda, block out 20-60 minutes for yourself a few times each week.  It doesn’t have to be at the same time every day, but that often helps our clients stay consistent.

2) Find Kid-Friendly Activities

Tip number two – if you have kids and your kids need you to be there at all times, find activities, workouts, or programs that you can bring your kids to.  Find a gym that has a daycare center or maybe an outdoor bootcamp in a park where your kid can run around. The bottom line is that you will need to find a place that can accomodate your kids while you are taking time for yourself getting your workout in.

Action Step:  Do an online search for fitness centers or training studios that are kid-friendly, or look to see if there is a daycare place you could take your kids to for an hour or so while you workout.

3) Take Advantage Of What Summer Offers

Tip number three – take advantage of what summer has to offer.  At least here in the Chicagoland area, it is not easy to get outside and workout in the winter, so make sure you are finding all the new parks and paths to explore outside this summer season.

Action Step:  See if you can have at least one of your workouts each week be outside.  Go for a run, ride your bike, or find a place to go hiking. Whatever you do, summer is here now, and while you still need to get your resistance training in indoors, let the summer weather allow you to do your cardio work outside.
