Exercise Tips For The Post-Christmas Blues

Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are talking about one exercise topic for two minutes and giving you three reasons why you should follow our advice. Now this week, we are talking about exercise tips to help you get over those post-Christmas blues. The parties are done. The food has been eaten. The lights now need to come down. But hey, there’s still New Years! How can you workout between now and New Years to help get over those post-Christmas blues?

1) Take Advantage Of A Lighter Work Week

Tip number one – the likelihood is that you are going to be working less this week, and that is great! So find time to make it to your local gym, get familiar with the environment, and get familiar with the machines. Get outside and move your body. Find an elliptical inside – maybe you have a treadmill at home. Whatever you do, make sure you find time to move between now and New Years.

Action Step: Right now, look at your schedule for the upcoming days. Do you see a free hour here or there? If yes, schedule yourself a workout during those times. If no, schedule your workout first thing in the morning or later in the evening.

2) Take Advantage Of The Winter Weather

Tip number two – take advantage of the winter weather and do some activities you haven’t done before. Whether it is getting out and going skiing (downhill or cross-country), going snowshoeing, or hiking, this week of winter weather can offer a lot of opportunities that you may not get to seize on a regular basis.

Action Step: Find a local park to walk around in or head to an outdoor gear retailer to rent some winter activity equipment. REI is a national brand that usually has quality rental equipment for your outdoor activity needs.

3) Take Time To Plan Your 2018 Exercise

Tip number three – take some time to plan what you are going to be doing for exercise in the New Year and when you get back to your regular busy schedule. You might take time to look up local gyms in your area. Perhaps you are thinking about starting with a personal trainer or trying out MAT®. Either way, it is a great time to connect with those professionals and get some times set up for when you get back to your regular busy schedule.

Action Step: Find an hour this week to sit down and think about what you would like to do for exercise in 2018. What are your goals? What plan would you like to have in place in the New Year? Spending an hour now to map that all out can have a tremendous impact on the results you experience with your exercise over the coming 12 months.
