Muscle Activation Techniques® (MAT) is one of the most impactful things you can do for your strength, mobility, and overall wellbeing.
While many people search out and find MAT because of some symptom such as tight hamstrings, achy knees, or painful shoulders, one of the most powerful aspects of MAT is when a client gets on a maintenance plan.
Yes, MAT is extremely effective at relieving tight muscles, painful joints, and many different types of aches and issues throughout all areas of the body. However, what really sets MAT apart is how potent it is at helping people maintain their muscle strength and flexibility once they are feeling well.
It is kind of like learning a foreign language–you need a lot of exposure to the new language when you are first learning it to really pick it up, but once you reach a decent level of proficiency, you can maintain that level with much less frequent exposure to the language.
How does this play out with MAT?
At first, we often recommend that clients come in at least once every week for the first six weeks.
Then, we can reevaluate and determine if they can move to maintenance. If they still have symptoms or have performance goals they want to achieve, we continue to meet weekly until everything is resolved with their symptoms and their performance goals are met.
At that point, we can move to a maintenance plan.
For many people, meeting twice a month is a really good frequency to help them maintain where they are at while still making some progress.
In fact, we see such great results with this frequency of MAT that we offer an exclusive maintenance program for our clients at a twice per month frequency.
Some people, however, are traveling much greater distances, whether it is driving from neighboring states or flying in from other parts of the country or internationally.
For these clients, meeting for a longer period of time (two to four hours) every four to six weeks has been extremely effective at helping them maintain their foundation while still progressing their body forward.
And, the great thing about being in a maintenance phase with MAT, is anytime a symptom or issue pops up, you know you are only a short period of time away from your next session, which will often completely take care of the issue.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Once somebody gets to a maintenance phase, they are almost always just one session away from having any issue that pops up completely resolved.
This is such an empowering place to be because you know that you can push your body and use your body however you want and anything that comes up or happens to it is just one session away from being completely taken care of.
