A couple months ago an article was released describing how LeBron James keeps his body functioning at a high level.  Between private chefs, trainers, and various therapists, it was reported that LeBron spends $1.5M each year on making sure his body stays working well.  You can see the original article here.  Now, you might read that number and think, “He can spend that much money because he makes $____ million each year.” But, I would actually argue that it is the reverse.

See, at 33 year old, LeBron had arguably one of his best regular seasons ever.  And, while 33 doesn’t seem old in the grand scheme of things, in NBA terms, most players have already peaked by that age and are starting to decline.  So, I would make the argument that LeBron is able to continue to put up huge numbers (and therefore continue to get paid well) BECAUSE he spends what he does each on his body.

Why is it that LeBron seems to get better and better while those his age do not?  Simply, because he prioritizes investing in the thing that allows him to keep playing.

How does this apply to you, though?  While you may not be getting paid to play sports, ask yourself if your ability to earn money is dependent on your ability to be healthy?  If you pay for any kind of disability insurance or have paid sick days from work, then you know your health is vital to your ability to work.

Here’s the problem, though – most of us invest in the systems to support us when things go wrong instead of investing in making sure things keep going right.

The reality is that whether or not you are a professional athlete, your health is vital to your ability to work.  Not only that, but in order to do the things you love to do – likely a large reason why you work in the first place – your health has to be intact.  You don’t have to be a multimillionaire or professional athlete to invest in your health. Exercising regularly, getting good sleep, safely managing your stress, and eating properly can do wonders for you.  Additionally, maintaining the function of your body with something like Muscle Activation Techniques® can be a game changer.

At Muscle Activation Schaumburg, we have a number of resources to help you do this.  I would recommend starting with our two free e-books, which can be downloaded here and here, as well as our weekly podcast, “Exercise Is Health”.

Consistently investing a little bit of time and energy into your health will pay dividends for your entire life.  At the end of the day, you don’t have to be a professional athlete to invest in your health, you just have to prioritize it like one because at the end of the day, your health is what allows you to earn and enjoy all the riches in life.
