Tips To Keep Your Health Up During The Holiday Weekend

Welcome back everybody to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays. Now this week, we are talking to those of you who are ready to celebrate the upcoming holidays. If you are with us here in the U.S., the Fourth of July is just around the corner. And, a few days before that, if you are one of our friends up in Canada, Canada Day is coming July 1. What things can you do to make sure your health stays up even while you are celebrating these holidays?

1) Schedule Physical Activities

Our first tip to help you keep up your health during the holiday weekend is to schedule physical activities either by yourself or with a group of friends or family members. A lot of times, these national holidays such as the Fourth of July are times for families to be together, so schedule a physical event for your family each and every day.

Action Step:  Plan ahead to do at least one physical activity every day. It can be like going for a bike ride, playing frisbee outside, or playing catch. Schedule something to get you and your family moving.

2) Stay Hydrated

Our second tip to help you keep up your health during the holiday weekend is to stay hydrated. If you are outside, it is likely going to be warm, so make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day. And, if you are going to indulge with a few drinks, even more reason to try your best to stay hydrated.

Action Step:  Fill up a big jug of water at the beginning of the day and make sure that stays with you all day. Set a goal for how many of those you want to drink during the day, especially if you are outside during the hottest times.

3) Fuel Up On Fresh Fruits and Veggies

Our third tip to help you keep up your health during the holiday weekend is to fuel up on lots of fresh fruits and veggies. The summer time is a great opportunity to get a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, so take advantage of these offerings and make sure to have a selection of them available throughout the weekend.

Action Step:  Fill your buffet tables and barbecues with fresh fruit and vegetables. Yes, feel free to include all of the traditional cookout options, but at least have the fruits and veggies available.
