2-Minute Tuesdays

Stuck in your house? Get your workout in with these tips!

Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are talking about one exercise topic for two minutes and giving you three reasons why you should follow our advice. Now this week, we are talking to those of you who are stranded at home.  You can’t leave the house, but you still need to get your workout in. What things can you do at home when you can’t leave to make sure your workouts still get completed?

1) Use Your House For Cardio

Exercise Tip Number One For Getting Your Workouts In When You Can’t Leave Your House – Get in cardio in your home.  Do you have stairs? Stairs can be a great way to get cardio in while staying in your home. Set a timer and do stairs–or other cardio activities like jump rope, jumping jacks, or squat jumps–in your house.

Action Step:  Do you have a space in your house with enough room to stand and reach overhead with a few inches of clearance?  Perfect! You just found your jumping jacks space 🙂

2) Utilize YouTube

Exercise Tip Number Two For Getting Your Workouts In When You Can’t Leave Your House – Flip open YouTube.  There are a ton of at-home workout programs on YouTube that are completely free. All you need is an internet connection and many can be done using only your body weight.  There are SO many resources out there online to get workouts in while at home, there should be no reason why you can’t get it done.

Action Step:  Looking for an at-home bodyweight workout program?  Take a trip back in time with Charlie and check out this program he put together on YouTube back in 2009!

3) Go For Time, Not Reps Or Weight

Exercise Tip Number Three For Getting Your Workouts In When You Can’t Leave Your House – When you are working out at home, go for a specific amount of time with your exercise instead of a certain number of reps or trying to hit a specific weight.  When you are working out at home, you can often be limited on the amount of weight you can lift. Additionally, we have spoken to the immense benefits of shifting your focus from doing a certain number of reps to doing an exercise for a specific amount of time, the details of which can be found here.

Action Step:  Flip open the timer app on your phone and challenge yourself to do each exercise for a specific amount of time instead of trying to hit a certain weight or do a specific number of reps.  Our favorite app is call Interval Timer; check it out!
