Body feeling tweaked from shoveling snow? These exercise tips may help!

Welcome back to this week’s edition of 2-Minute Tuesdays where we are talking about one exercise topic for two minutes and giving you three reasons why you should follow our advice.  Now this week, we are talking to those of you whose body might be feeling a little bit tweaked from shoveling snow. What things do you need to keep in mind with your exercise, and what things do you need to make sure to do in the gym, to help with your body that might be a little bit tweaked right now?

1) Don’t Avoid Weight Training

Exercise Tip Number One If Your Body Feels Tweaked:  Don’t avoid weight training. Weight training is an important and potent way to get your body back to par.  You might not think of weight training as a way to do this because the way you typically see weight training being done in the gym is by throwing weights around.  Slow your movements down and use weight training to re-engage muscles that have been stressed out.

2) Respect Your Body’s Current ROM

Exercise Tip Number Two If Your Body Feels Tweaked:  Respect your body’s current range of motion. A lot times, when your body feels tweaked, it can feel like it tightens up or gets achy.  This can make you feel like you want to force motion through your shoulders, hips, or trunk by doing things like stretching. But, we encourage you to be respectful of what your body can do right now from a motion standpoint and don’t try to move it farther than what it is capable of.

3) Find Your Local MAT® Specialist

Exercise Tip Number Three If Your Body Feels Tweaked:  Find your local Muscle Activation Techniques® (MAT®) specialist.  Often times, when you shovel snow you are using muscles that you may not use frequently.  Using these muscles in a repetitive manner can stress them out and cause them to not work well or become inhibited.  Your body’s response to this is to tighten up, which does not feel good. In order to get your body back to par, you need to find the muscles that have been overworked and stressed out from the snow shoveling.  This will help your body relax and allow you to get back to your normal activities.
